Data can only be exported from SQL Editor. Which export path is available depends on two settings:

Workspace Allow data export without approval	Project Allow access grants	How members export
On	—	Directly, after running a query
Off	On	Just-in-time data export — via an access grant, after approval
Off	Off	No export

Direct export

With Allow data export without approval on (Settings > General, SQL Editor section — the workspace default), anyone who can run a query can click Export on the result to download it — exporting is not a separate permission. See Export data for how Export behaves.

Just-in-time data export

To put every export behind an approval, a Workspace Admin turns off Allow data export without approval; members can then no longer export directly. As long as Allow access grants is enabled on the project, they can still export through the access grant mechanism:

Click Request export on the query result. The Request access grant drawer opens with Export pre-checked; you can also check Export in any access grant request.
The approver sees on the request issue that the grant allows exporting the result.
Once approved, run the approved statement and export its result before the grant expires.

Every data-export request — pending, active, or expired — stays visible in the Access Grants list on the SQL Editor left sidebar (the shield icon). Add the export filter (export: Yes) to narrow the list to export grants; an expired grant can be re-requested from there.
